What to Do When Water From Your Dishwasher Pools On the Floor—Door Leaks

Simple maintenance takes care of 90 percent of dishwasher issues. However, leaks are inevitable. When you notice a pool of water next to your dishwasher, you know it might be leaking. You don’t have to call a plumber as these simple steps will help you eliminate the problem completely.

1. Determine the source

A poorly sealed door is the major reason for nearly all leaks. Look out for a bad seal during the next washing load by tracing the source of the drips. You can go to the next step after you sot moisture. If you cannot pinpoint the source, open up the lower front boards and look for drips. At times you may tauten a hose connection, but such leaks are difficult to fix.

2. Get rid of simple door leaks  

l Inspect the gasket. If you don’t find apparent damage, just clean it using an all-purpose household cleaner.

l Clean the float switch. If it is stuck in the lower position, it will make the tub to overfill.

l Only use a detergent that is meant for dishwashers. Hand dishwasher over-foam and cause leaks that make your kitchen look old.

3. Adjust the door

Check if the door requires some adjustment. Start by closing and latching it. If it jiggles, then chances are that it is very loose. Next, run the dishwasher and listen, and then push the door. In case the noise decreases, the door is too lose. Most washers have an amendable latch that is positioned at the top of the frame. You can adjust this place to help the gasket seal better and to fasten the door.

4. Replace the door gasket

In case the leak around the door continues, there is a possibility that there is a crack at the gasket. Buy another gasket. Some types are hard to install, while for others you only need to read the instructions on the gasket packaging. Check how the old one fits in before installing the new one.
